When Truth Eludes Us

Q: Why is the truth hard to come by?
A:  It’s easy to mistake for a forgery.

“Harvard’s motto is ‘Veritas.’ Many of you have already found out and others will find out in the course of their lives that truth eludes us as soon as our concentration begins to flag, all the while leaving the illusion that we are continuing to pursue it. This is the source of much discord. Also, truth seldom is sweet; it is almost invariably bitter.”

Excerpt from Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s Harvard University Commencement Address
June 8, 1978

Our concentration on truth (God/Bible) has flagged.

And now, we are left with the illusion that what we are pursuing is truth, but it’s pseudo-truth. It’s relative truth. It’s “What’s true for you doesn’t have to be true for me,”.  It’s “My truth”.

We talk more about truth now than in years past; and yet what we talk about is an illusion of the actual thing.

Actionable Question:  Where have I lost focus of the truth?
